AIDS Support

There are a number of AIDS support groups and charities across the world, working towards treatments for the disease as well as helping victims deal with such a serious burden. A great deal of AID support work is focused in Africa which has a very serious AIDS problem, with over three quarters of every recorded case of AIDS occurring in sub-Saharan Africa.

However AIDS has spread to many other parts of the world, including the western world. AIDS is a serious threat to drug users who inject themselves and a number of AIDS support groups aim to help those who have acquired AIDS through drug user, providing counselling services and helping them deal with the burden.

Victims of AIDS will often be subject to significant social stigma and AIDS support groups can help people to deal with this. Social stigma faced by AIDS sufferers is a serious problem for many, especially for victims and their families who are struggling to cope with the illness in its own right.

The symbol of AIDS support charities is a red ribbon and it is quite a common sight for somebody to chow their backing of AIDS support groups by wearing a red ribbon on their chest. Many well know celebrities have been known to show support for AIDS support groups by wearing these ribbons. AIDS support groups are becoming increasingly prolific as more people are directly or indirectly affected by the virus.
